| On September 16, 2026, the Sayville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Fire Island Pines, working alongside neighboring Fire Department's as part of a mutual aid effort to battle a house fire that threatened adjoining structures. A crew of Sayville firefighters traveled to the scene using the Sayville Ferry to provide assistance.
Due to limited staffing on Fire Island during this time of year, fires typically require support from neighboring land-based fire departments to ensure there are enough personnel and equipment available. The Sayville Fire Department crew was led by 1st Assistant Chief Alec Reutter.
Our members train regularly so they are prepared to respond when called upon, whether here in our community or assisting our neighbors.
