On Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 11:22 AM the Sayville Fire Department was alerted for a “Car vs. Building” at #291 West Main St. Upon arrival, Asst. Chief Chris Chester found a Nissan Pathfinder SUV through the store front of “Tanya’s Fine European Tailoring”, with a female driver with minor injuries. Sayville firefighters stabilized the vehicle and assessed the damage to the building. With significant damage to the store front, Chief Chester requested the Town of Islip Buildings Department to respond along with the Town Fire Marshal to further investigate the incident and the evaluate the integrity of the building. Fortunately at the time of the accident, only workers were in the occupancy in the rear of the store. The driver of the SUV was transported to an area hospital by the Sayville Community Ambulance Co. for further medical evaluation. Under the command of Chief Chester, fire crews cordoned off the area and mitigated any further hazard to the public. The Sayville Fire Department responded with Heavy Rescue 6, Engines 2 & 4 and Tower Ladder 9 along with 22 firefighters on scene.
