On Tuesday, July 6th, the Sayville Fire Department was toned out for a mutual aid response to a brush fire at the Edgewood Preserve in Brentwood. A crew of six firefighters responded in Sayville's brush truck (also known as a stump jumper). They arrived on scene shortly after 5PM and quickly went to work putting out small fires and soaking hot spots while enduring thick smoke and the extremely hot temperatures provided by Mother Nature. Sayville's crew was released and arrived back at Headquarters shortly after 11PM.
Volunteers of the Sayville Fire Department are trained and equipped to fight brush fires. Over the years, Sayville's dedicated volunteer firefighters have fought brush fires in and around Sayville and spent many man-hours fighting the famous wildfires of 1995.
