On Friday, March 7th, 2014, the Sayville Fire Department was invited to participate in the American Legion Smith-Wever Post #651 Dedication Ceremony to rename Foster Ave. The section of Foster Ave., between Montauk Highway and Middle Road, will now be known as "American Legion Way" in tribute to the members of Post #651 for not only their past military service, but also for their continual contributions to the local community. Tower Ladder Apparatus from both the Sayville and West Sayville Fire Departments proudly displayed the American Flag across Foster Ave. as the members of the American Legion stood at attention while local dignitaries bestowed this great honor. In it's continuing partnership with the community, the fire service of both Sayville and West Sayville was honored to a part of this historic event.
