Sayville FD asks for residents assistance

With the expected snow storm heading our way, the Sayville Fire Department ask the residents for assistance with clearing a path for hydrants. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fire hydrants around town and we will be unable to get to all of them. Of course, responding firefighters have shovels on hand to dig out hydrants during fire emergencies and dispatchers have information on hydrant location. But where minutes count during a fire, precious time will be lost finding the precise location of the hydrant and digging it out. Sayville Fire Department Chief Michael Butler asks residents when you shovel your driveway, if there is a hydrant near your home, or business please shovel it out so it is visible for us. A two feet clearing around the hydrant will give firefighters enough room to quickly hook up their hoses and get water on the fire quickly should they be called to a fire under these conditions.
